Tuna & Wines small group tour in Priorat from Salou, Cambrils or Tarragona

We’ll begin our day by departing in a small group—maximum 8 people—from your hotel in Salou, Cambrils, or Tarragona at the agreed time, heading south toward the coastal town of L’Ametlla de Mar. This town, steeped in seafaring tradition, preserves its fishing heritage in every corner of the port and in its narrow streets steeped in history.

Our first experience will be the famous Tuna Tour, a unique marine adventure in Europe. We’ll board Balfegó’s modern catamaran from the port of L’Ametlla de Mar. During the 20-minute cruise to the bluefin tuna breeding pools, we’ll enjoy an explanatory video on board about this fascinating species, known for its large size, speed, and culinary value. Upon arriving at the marine facilities, we’ll anchor next to the pools where more than 300 bluefin tuna live—some exceeding 2.5 meters and weighing 250 kg. After a brief introduction to specialized equipment, we’ll experience an exciting snorkeling session swimming among these majestic animals, in a guided, safe, and absolutely unforgettable experience.

During the return to the port, we will savor Balfegó bluefin tuna sashimi, accompanied by wasabi, soy sauce, and a drink, enjoying the taste of the Mediterranean with all our senses.

After the marine experience, we’ll head inland to El Masroig, one of the most distinctive towns in Priorat. This region is world-renowned for the quality of its wines, forged in slate and red clay soils. In this second part of the tour, we’ll visit a traditional winery where we’ll learn about the heroic viticulture that defines this region. We’ll tour its facilities to discover how these intense and elegant wines are made, and conclude with a guided tasting in a family-friendly setting, surrounded by history and a passion for wine.

At the end of the day, we’ll return by vehicle to your accommodation in Salou, Cambrils, or Tarragona. An authentic, small-group experience that combines sea and mountains, flavor and tradition, nature and culture in a single day.

1. Tuna Tour – L’Ametlla de Mar

The experience begins in L’Ametlla de Mar , a charming fishing village in the Baix Ebre region that preserves a strong seafaring tradition. From its port, you’ll set sail on a modern catamaran toward the famous Balfegó pools, one of the world’s leading companies in sustainable Atlantic bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus) fishing .

During the cruise, you’ll learn about this fascinating species, capable of reaching speeds of up to 70 km/h and traveling thousands of miles throughout its life. Once at the floating facilities, you’ll swim among more than 300 giant tuna , some measuring over 2.5 meters in length and weighing up to 250 kg.

This activity is not only exciting but also unique in Europe, combining ecotourism, marine conservation, and adventure. It concludes with a tasting of bluefin tuna sashimi , considered one of the most exquisite in the world, along with a drink, all while sailing back with views of the Catalan coast.

2. Winery in El Masroig – Priorat

The second part of the tour takes us to the Priorat region , a land of centuries-old vines, steep hills, and llicorella soils , a black slate that gives the region’s wines their characteristic minerality. In El Masroig , a town with over a century of winemaking tradition, you’ll visit a winery that embodies the soul of this region.

During the tour, you’ll discover how the extreme soil conditions and dry climate force the vines to strive, producing high-quality grapes. You’ll learn about the winemaking process and taste different varieties from the area, especially Garnacha and Cariñena, in an authentic, rural setting. An experience that connects you with the passion, dedication, and culture of those who have lived from the vineyards for generations.

3. The Priorat – Region and identity

Beyond the wines, Priorat is a region that exudes authenticity. Surrounded by mountain ranges like Montsant, its history is marked by the founding of the Cartuja de Escaladei in the 12th century , which gave rise to systematic vine cultivation in the area. El Masroig, Gratallops, Porrera, and many other towns keep this ancient tradition alive.

With fewer than 10,000 inhabitants spread across small villages, this region offers one of the most authentic rural experiences in Catalonia. Its rugged landscape, dry-stone walls, and paths through vineyards make you understand why wine isn’t produced here, it’s lived.
