    TOUR OVERVIEW CORDOBA FROM MADRID ⇢

    Visit to Córdoba

    This Tour starts early in the morning, by a high-speed train (AVE) from Madrid we will have a comfortable trip at full speed to the city of Cordoba. 

    Already in Cordoba we will discover its cultural heritage, a city with an Arab heritage and a great past, the tour begins in the spectacular Mosque-Cathedral, symbol of Cordoba, here we will learn more about the caliphate of Abd al-Rahman I in the eighth century. You will marvel at the wealth of the mihrab, observe the Cathedral built after the Christian conquest. 

    The visit to the Jewish Quarter is next, we will talk about its history and the origin of this city and Sephardic Jews in the Plaza del Cardenal Salazar, then we will move on to the greatest example of Mudejar art, the Chapel of St. Bartholomew. 

    Then, we will go to the Souk, a place dedicated to the manufacture and sale of Cordoba crafts, its patio is made like the famous Patios de Córdoba (World Heritage declared by UNESCO). 

    We will walk along the Jewish Street, we will discover the Synagogue, a place of worship for the Cordobeses and one of the three best preserved synagogues in Spain. 

     

    Tour for Alcazar Castle

    And for last, we will end this tour discovering the Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos (Alcazar of the Christian Kings), an old palace and fortress of XIV Century, also a great stage of events of great importance such as the visit of Christopher Columbus. 

    We will also contemplate Roman elements there, such as mosaics and sarcophagus, and, of course, its spectacular gardens. 

    End of the space to have lunch and have a free afternoon knowing more about this incredible city. 

    INFORMATION OF CORDOBA

    Cordoba and its History 

    Founded by the Romans during the second century BC. C., became the capital of the Hispania Ulterior in the times of the Roman Republic, also the Betic province during the Roman Empire. However, its intense moment would be during the Muslim domination of the Iberian Peninsula, when it will rise as the capital of the Emirate of Cordoba, although at the time of the Caliphate of Cordoba it became the most populous and cultured city in Europe. During the long European Middle Ages, mosques, libraries, bathrooms and souks abounded, as well as numerous sources. 

     

    Mosque Cathedral of Cordoba 

    This is a World Heritage Site since 1984, it is the most important monument in the Islamic West and one of the most impressive in the world. Its history summarizes the complete evolution of the Umayyad style in Spain, also the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles of Christian construction. 

     

    La Juderia 

    It is an area of ​​the city of Córdoba that was the neighborhood in which the Jews lived, between the thirteenth and fifteenth centuries. The area that is currently known by that name is located in the northwestern part of the Cathedral Mosque, between Deanes, Manríquez, Tomás Conde, Jewish, Almanzor and Romero streets, although it belongs exactly to the area where most of the Jews lived during this time. This is part of the historic center of Córdoba that was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1994. 

     

    The souk 

    It is also known as The Handicraft Market, it is one of the places that are most characterized in the Andalusian city of Córdoba, where local crafts are promoted. It is framed within the historic center of Córdoba, declared a World Heritage Site, specifically located in the Jewish quarter, near the Mosque and the Synagogue. 

     

    Cordoba Synagogue 

    It is located in the Jewish quarter. Built between 1314 and 1315, it served as a temple until the conclusive Jewish expulsion. On the side of the patio you reach a small lobby. In 1492 the Jews are expelled, then the temple was used as a hospital, then it was hermitage of San Crispín and already last, nursery school. It was declared a National Monument at the end of the 19th century. 

     

    Alcazar of the Christian Kings 

    This is a military building in the city of Córdoba, located on one side of the Guadalquivir River. In 1328 the monarch Alfonso XI of Castile ordered its construction on the old Andalusian Alcazar, formerly the residence of the Roman governor and customs. The architectural complex has a sober style in its exterior and splendid in its interior, with the magnificent gardens and courtyards that maintain a Mudejar lyre.The Alcazar is of cultural interest since 1931. It is part of the historic center of Córdoba, in 1994 it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
