Tour itinerary Sóller and wine cellars
The start of the tour will take place at the agreed meeting point, in this case we will depart on a tour from Palma to our first stop, Sóller: Sóller is a city of 13,800 inhabitants located in the northwest of Mallorca, in the Sierra de Tramuntana. About three kilometers from the coast, the mountains open into a shallow basin, in the center of which is the small town. Forested slopes form the backdrop, and fertile soils support the cultivation of citrus, almond, and fig trees.
Sóller is surrounded by orange trees, which are complemented by plantations of almond and olive trees.
The main attractions that we will discover in Sóller are:
– Plaza de la Constitución, the heart of Sóller
– Church of San Bartolomé, from baroque to modernism
– Banco de Sóller, symbol of splendor
– Carrer de Sa Lluna, a walk through history
– Can Prunera
– The orange trees of Sóller in Ecovinyassa
– Shopping in Soller
Saturdays are market day in Sóller.
Second stop, Port de Sóller
Remote Port de Sóller, in the northwest of Mallorca, is a quaint little seaside town that has become well known and popular above all for its historic tram, large bay with sheltered harbor and picturesque surroundings.
The location of this small seaside town has often played a decisive role in its history. Separated from the rest of Mallorca by the Tramuntana mountains, past generations had to resort to water to make trade possible. For this reason, it is not surprising that the Port of Sóller is so linked to navigation and the Mediterranean.
The historic train linking Palma and Sóller began operating in 1912. Almost ninety years later, the car tunnel was completed.
Before this, drivers had to travel through the Coll de Sóller – a big challenge, perhaps, for cyclists – although it is not a particularly pleasant journey for drivers due to its many hairpin bends. Since 2018 the use of the tunnel is also not subject to a toll.
If they had lived to witness the modern construction of the Sóller tunnel, the locals would have marveled at the possibility of the cars reaching their village. However, the ease of communication by road would have stripped Sóller of its rich maritime past; the need to explore opened this humble corner of the island to the world, bringing with it the import and export of goods, especially citrus fruits, and, what is less desirable, the invasion of pirates.
Fleets of Turkish and Algerian pirates landed on the beach at Sóller in 1561. Armed only with wooden swords and small stone catapults, the villagers bravely defended their homes from attack, causing defeat and earning themselves a place in the history book. of the heroes of Majorca. This attack is still represented and the victory over the invaders is celebrated in the great annual popular festival of Es Firó.
Thanks to its remote location, and the use of the area as a training base by the Spanish army, Port de Sóller was protected from overdevelopment when tourists began to arrive, helping to preserve its natural charm and beauty.
The main attractions that we will discover in Sóller are:
– Soller tram
– Platja d’en Repic
– The oldest streets of the port
– old lighthouse
And third stop, but not less important, we will visit some wineries in the Binissalem area.
Wines and other Spanish products usually carry the DO or DOP (Denomination of Origin) label. It is a denomination of origin that is a guarantee of quality and origin, since the wines have to pass strict quality controls to obtain this label. The winery that we will visit is classified as PDO, and is part of the PDO Binissalem, the first PDO in Mallorca.
We will make a visit to the winery, we will discover its history and how its vineyards and cellars work.
We will visit the town of Biniagual and its gardens, and to finish we will go to the Vinoteca where we will enjoy a wine tasting and tapas.
What better way to end a tour with a good taste in your mouth?
