Itinerary of the Tour Deià Valldemossa and wine cellars
The start of the tour will take place at the agreed meeting point, in this case we will depart on a tour from Palma to our first stop, Valldemossa: Town on the North coast, jewel of the Tramuntana mountains.
If you have researched Mallorca, Valldemossa has probably appeared more than once. This small town of great beauty is located in the hills of the Sierra de Tramuntana, about 17 km from Palma. Surrounded by wooded hills and with a population of 2,000, this quiet and magical town was the home of Frederic Chopin and George Sand. Its cobbled streets, full of cafes and small shops, will guide you from the Real Cartuja de Valldemossa, a former Carthusian monastery, to its church and its impressive landscape.
During the tour we will observe its steep streets, stone facades and important religious buildings, among lush vegetation.
The main attractions that we will discover in Valldemossa are:
– Cartoixa of Valldemossa
– Archduke’s Path
– Frederic Chopin and George Sand Museum
– Parish Church of San Bartolomé
– Hermitage of the Trinity
We will recommend you to try the traditional and mythical Coca de patata or the classic ensaimada in any of its versions in the traditional patisseries of the town.
Curiosity: In this privileged environment, Michael Douglas has a house, which also has a golden past… This same mansion belonged to Archduke Luís Salvador of Austria, a precursor of tourism on the island.
Second stop, Deia
Deià is literally the next stop after Valldemossa if you continue along the same road from Palma. This town has the same style of cobbled and narrow streets as Valldemossa and is full of green and ocher colored houses. After Robert Graves moved to Deià in 1932, this town became a colony for foreign artists, continuing this bohemian and artistic tradition to this day.
Deià is a magical place inhabited by artists, writers and… wealthy people.
What is it about this place that, in addition to painters, artisans and writers, seems to attract more and more celebrities and tourists? The list is long. Its architectural richness competes with that of the surrounding landscapes (Deià grew up in a privileged place between the sea and the mountains) and its growing popularity has only enriched its cultural agenda, especially in high season (such as the International Music Festival de Cámara, which Deià has hosted every summer for more than four decades).
That is why, although the town does not have many residents, it can boast of having a good hotel and gastronomic offer (the best restaurants are concentrated on Via Archiduque Luis Salvador and its surroundings), which will not disappoint even the most demanding visitor.
The main points of interest in Deiá are:
– Charming streets in Deià
– Parish Church of San Juan Bautista
– Deia Cemetery
– Robert Graves House-Museum
– Archaeological Museum of Deia
– Waterfall on the Camino des Racó
– Cala Deià
And third stop, but not less important,
We will visit some wineries in the Binissalem area.
Wines and other Spanish products usually carry the DO or DOP (Denomination of Origin) label. It is a denomination of origin that is a guarantee of quality and origin, since the wines have to pass strict quality controls to obtain this label. The winery that we will visit is classified as PDO, and is part of the PDO Binissalem, the first PDO in Mallorca.
We will make a visit to the winery, we will discover its history and how its vineyards and cellars work.
We will visit the town of Biniagual and its gardens, and to finish we will go to the Vinoteca where we will enjoy a wine tasting and tapas.
What better way to end a tour with a good taste in your mouth?
