PRIVATE ONE DAY TOUR TO BESALÚ, RUPIT AND VIC

We depart from Barcelona in the morning to visit Besalú.

We will walk across the Puente Viejo de Besalú, believed to have been built in the 11th century over a Roman bridge and later reconstructed in the 14th century. After the damage it suffered during the Civil War, it was rebuilt once again. The bridge consists of two angled sections, with a tower and a small arch at the center. We will explore the town center, full of medieval streets and facades, part of its rich heritage. During the tour, we will visit the town’s ecclesiastical monuments, such as the Sant Pere, Santa María, and Sant Vicenç churches, which blend Romanesque and Gothic elements. In the Jewish quarter, we can visit medieval baths dedicated to Jewish ritual ablutions.

Next, we will visit Rupit, considered the medieval charm of Catalonia. The charm of this town is found in its stone houses, built in the 16th and 17th centuries, which are very well preserved despite being over 400 years old. We will make a stop for lunch.

On the way, we will stop at the Mirador del Santuario del Far, offering exceptional views of the Sau Reservoir, a natural area rising above the Sau Valley and the Osona plain. The area is home to forests with great scenic interest, inhabited by birds of prey.

We will then head to Vic, a historic and monumental city, the capital of a fertile pre-Pyrenean plain. We will explore the city’s medieval center, starting at Plaça Major, the most attractive urban space in the medieval nucleus. In this area, we will see buildings in Gothic style, such as Casa Beuló, and others in more modern styles, like Casa Tolosa.

We will finish our visit by exploring the ruins of the Palau dels Montcada, the remains of an ancient Roman temple from the 2nd century AD, and the Sant Bartolomeu Sesgorgues prehistoric site.

Finally, we will close this adventure by returning to Barcelona.
