First stop: Montserrat, the sacred mountain of Catalonia

Our first stop takes us to the mystical and majestic mountain of Montserrat, a place that combines impressive natural landscapes with a deep spiritual tradition. This mountain range, with unmistakable shapes and steep peaks, has been a point of reference for Catalans for centuries, both in the religious and cultural spheres.

Perched high on the mountain, 720 metres above sea level, is the Monastery of Santa Maria de Montserrat, founded in the 11th century and home to the venerated image of the Mare de Déu de Montserrat, affectionately known as “La Moreneta”. This figure of the Virgin, carved in dark wood, is the patron saint of Catalonia and attracts pilgrims from all over the world who seek her protection.

During the visit, we will explore the basilica, where the image of the Virgin is located, and walk through the cloisters and courtyards of the monastery, discovering monastic life and the history of the Benedictine monks who have inhabited it for almost a thousand years. We will also have the opportunity to listen, if time permits, to the Escolanía de Montserrat, one of the oldest children’s choirs in Europe, whose Gregorian chant adds an even more solemn atmosphere to the place.

For nature lovers, Montserrat offers endless natural viewpoints, from which we can admire the panoramic views of the valley and the Catalan lands that stretch to the horizon. If time permits, we can take a short walk along the Montserrat trails, which cross unique rock formations and offer a different perspective of this legendary massif.

Second stop: Priorat, wine tasting and lunch in the land of vineyards

After soaking up history and spirituality in Montserrat, we head to one of the most exclusive wine regions in Spain: Priorat. Located in a mountainous area and characterized by its “llicorella” (slate) soils, this designation of origin is famous for its powerful and structured wines, which have achieved international recognition.

Our visit begins at a prestigious winery, where we will learn about the winemaking process, from the cultivation of the vine to its aging in oak barrels. An expert winemaker will guide us through a high-end wine tasting, explaining the characteristics of the native varieties such as Garnacha and Cariñena, which give these wines their mineral character and great aging capacity.

After the tasting, we will enjoy a gourmet lunch at the winery itself or at a carefully selected local restaurant. Priorat gastronomy is based on local products and authentic flavours, offering dishes such as roast lamb, artisanal sausages, aged cheeses and fresh vegetables, all accompanied by the region’s excellent wines.

Final Destination: La Rioja, exploring the land of wine

After a day discovering the spirituality of Montserrat and the wine richness of Priorat, we arrive at our final destination: La Rioja, one of the most prestigious wine regions in Spain and the world.

Here, we will take a tour of La Rioja, visiting some of its most representative corners. Our first stop will be in Haro, considered the capital of Rioja wine, where we will be able to see some of the oldest and most legendary wineries in Spain.

We will continue our tour exploring the vineyards that cover the gentle hills of the region, with the possibility of visiting a traditional winery to learn about the history of Rioja viticulture and taste a selection of its best wines.

In addition to wine, La Rioja offers an impressive cultural heritage. We will walk through La Guardia, a beautiful medieval town with cobbled streets and panoramic views of the vineyards, and discover the history of this region that has been the epicenter of Spanish wine production for centuries.

During your stay, we recommend visiting its centuries-old wineries, enjoying the local cuisine and pairing the famous DOCa Rioja wines with traditional dishes such as potatoes a la riojana or roast lamb.
