OVERVIEW OF THE ONE WAY TOUR FROM BARCELONA TO ALICANTE

ONE WAY TOUR BARCELONA TO ALICANTE

Embark on a private trip from Barcelona to Alicante, exploring two of the most fascinating destinations in the Spanish Mediterranean along the way. This One Way Tour combines the spirituality and natural beauty of Montserrat, the vibrant mix of modernity and tradition in Valencia, and the coastal essence of Alicante, with its history, gastronomy and unmistakable Mediterranean lifestyle.

    First stop: Montserrat

Our first stop takes us to the emblematic mountain of Montserrat, a unique place for both its natural beauty and its religious importance. This rock formation, with its characteristic rounded peaks, has been a spiritual symbol for Catalonia for centuries and is considered one of the most special mountains in Spain.

Located more than 700 meters above sea level, the Monastery of Santa Maria de Montserrat is the heart of this natural site. Founded in the 11th century, it is an important pilgrimage centre and home to the Mare de Déu de Montserrat, better known as “La Moreneta”, the patron saint of Catalonia. This figure of the Virgin, dark in colour due to the ageing of the wood, has been venerated for centuries and continues to attract thousands of faithful every year.

During our visit, we will tour the basilica, the place where the image of the Virgin is found, and walk through the courtyards and cloisters of the monastery, learning about the history of the Benedictine monks who have inhabited it for almost a thousand years. If time permits, we will be able to listen to the singing of the Escolanía de Montserrat, one of the oldest children’s choirs in Europe, whose Gregorian chant resonates inside the sanctuary.

Montserrat is also an ideal place for nature lovers, as it offers numerous panoramic trails from where you can admire the impressive views of the valley and the entire Catalan region. For those who wish to explore further, there are short routes leading to strategic viewpoints from which you can take some of the best photos of the mountain range.

    Second stop: Valencia

After visiting Montserrat, we continue our journey south to Valencia, the third largest city in Spain and a perfect fusion of history, culture and modernity. Founded by the Romans in 138 BC, Valencia has witnessed a rich mix of influences over the centuries, from the Muslim occupation to its development as one of the most dynamic cities in the Mediterranean.

Our first stop will be at the City of Arts and Sciences, a spectacular architectural complex designed by Santiago Calatrava, which has made Valencia a benchmark for contemporary design. Here we will have the opportunity to admire iconic structures such as the Hemisfèric, the Museo de las Ciencias Príncipe Felipe and the Oceanogràfic, which houses the largest aquarium in Europe.

Next, we will enter the historic center of Valencia, where we will walk through the Plaza de la Virgen, surrounded by historic buildings such as the Cathedral of Valencia, an imposing Gothic construction whose tower, “El Miguelete”, offers impressive panoramic views of the city. Inside the cathedral is the Holy Chalice, considered by many to be the authentic Holy Grail used in the Last Supper.

Another unmissable point on our tour is the Lonja de la Seda, a jewel of civil Gothic architecture declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. This majestic building was an important commercial center during the Middle Ages and still retains its architectural grandeur, with its tall twisted columns and vaulted ceilings.

To complete our experience in Valencia, we will have free time to enjoy lunch in the city, with the option of tasting authentic Valencian paella in a traditional restaurant. Valencian cuisine is one of the richest in Spain, and trying this dish in its place of origin is an essential experience.

Final destination: Alicante, the essence of the Mediterranean

After our visit to Valencia, we head towards Alicante, a destination that perfectly embodies the Mediterranean lifestyle. This vibrant coastal city, bathed by the Mediterranean Sea, is famous for its history, its crystal-clear beaches and its exquisite cuisine based on seafood.

Upon arrival, we will take a tour of the historic center of Alicante, where we will discover some of its most emblematic corners. We will walk along the Explanada de España, an elegant promenade adorned with more than 6.5 million colorful mosaics, which stretches along the coast and is one of the liveliest meeting points in the city.

We will continue towards the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, surrounded by historic buildings and cafes where you can breathe the relaxed atmosphere of the city. From here, we will climb up to the Santa Bárbara Castle, an impressive fortress located on Mount Benacantil, from where we will enjoy spectacular panoramic views of the city, the port and the Mediterranean Sea. This castle, with more than 1,000 years of history, has witnessed numerous battles and remains one of the most important symbols of Alicante.

To end our experience, we will head to the famous Postiguet Beach, located right at the foot of the castle. Here we can relax while enjoying the sea and the vibrant atmosphere of the city, where the combination of tradition and modernity creates a unique atmosphere.
