Montserrat is Catalonia’s natural gem, crowned by a Benedictine monastery dating back to the 11th century. This destination is perfect for a half-day tour, where you can enjoy a pleasant day in close contact with nature, just a few kilometres from Barcelona. During the journey, you will admire the impressive mountain massif, with its characteristic needle-shaped peaks.
Upon arrival, you will visit the monastery, which is still active with more than 70 monks and houses the famous statue of La Moreneta, patron saint of Catalonia. You will go back in time as your guide tells you about the rich history and events of this place, which has been a spiritual centre for almost a thousand years.
After the visit to the monastery, you will begin an exciting trek through the mountains of Montserrat, starting with a ride on the Sant Joan funicular, which will offer you stunning views of the local flora and fauna. From there, you will follow the 3km route to the Mirador de Sant Jeroni, the highest peak in Montserrat, which rises to 1,236 metres. You will enjoy a walk through the oak forest at El Pla dels Ocells, avoiding small paths to follow the marked routes. As you progress, you will reach the Cavall Bernat viewpoint and, depending on your pace, you will follow the new path to Sant Jeroni, culminating at the summit with a geodesic vertex built in 1977.
