OVERVIEW OF THE MONTSERRAT TRAIN TOUR
We will begin our exciting day from Barcelona, accompanied by our guide, heading to the train station. There we will board a train that will take us to Montserrat, one of the most iconic destinations in Catalonia. The train ride offers stunning views of the Catalan countryside and lasts approximately 1 hour. During the journey, our guide will tell us stories about the Holy Mountain.
Upon reaching the base of Montserrat Mountain, we will take the Aeri de Montserrat cable car. This cable car offers a unique experience, allowing us to enjoy spectacular panoramic views as we ascend towards the monastery. The cable car ride lasts around 10 minutes and offers a stunning perspective of the surrounding landscape and the majestic Montserrat Mountain.
Once we arrive at Montserrat, we will explore the famous Montserrat Monastery. This Benedictine monastery, founded in the 11th century, is known for its impressive architecture and spiritual significance. Inside, you can visit the Basilica of Montserrat and see the famous image of the Virgin of Montserrat, known as “La Moreneta”, patron saint of Catalonia.
After visiting the monastery, you will have time to explore the surrounding area. You can enjoy well-marked trails that offer spectacular views of Montserrat’s unique rock formations. You can also visit the Montserrat Museum, which houses an art collection that includes works by artists such as El Greco, Caravaggio, Picasso and Dalí.
Enjoy lunch at one of Montserrat’s local restaurants, where you can try traditional Catalan cuisine. After lunch, you will have free time to continue exploring at your own pace. You can visit the souvenir shop, taste local liqueurs made by the monks or simply relax and enjoy the natural surroundings.
At the end of our visit, we will take the cable car back to the train station and board the train back to Barcelona. The return trip also takes approximately 1 hour.
