Castillo-de-Perelada

Palamos is the maritime capital of the Costa Brava, it is the municipality with the most international repercussion of the whole thing, of fishing origin, and that still maintains all the charms of the Costa Brava.

Palamos has its first vestiges in the Iberian town, from the 6th century to C, thanks to the rock located at one of the ends of the village. A small castle would also be built there. The official founding letter of the municipality is from 1279. Like all coastal towns in the Middle Ages, they had their fights with pirates.

Currently, it has privileged communication with Barcelona, and Girona by motorway and the sea, as a Cruise Terminal.

Palamos, despite its demographic growth, has managed to maintain its fishing origins, with a particularly relevant fishing and tourist industry.

The possibilities that this municipality can offer us are infinite.

PALAMOS OLD TOWN

The old town of Palamós has its origins on a small hill, next to the old fishing post, between the old walls, although there are practically none left. Walking through its streets we can feel the fear of the old fishermen in their homes due to the constant pirate attacks by sea.

Noteworthy:

  • Church of Santa Maria, built in 1417 on top of an earlier one from 1349. We will find a collection of sacred art and the main altarpiece, the work of Isaac Hermes Vermey, originally from Utrecht (The Netherlands) made at the end of the 16th century.
  • Church of Santa Eugenia de Vila-romano, of the old municipality of San Juan de Palamós, from the 18th century, built on a primitive chapel from the 10th century.

RONDA WAY IN PALAMOS

Another of the great activities offered by Tourism in Palamós is the Camino de Ronda

Like all the towns on the coast, Palamos also has its own castle, the Castillo de San Esteve del Mar, dating from the 12th-12th centuries. However, it was converted into a farmhouse. It is located near the coastal path, towards Calella de Palafrugell. The coastal path runs a total of 7 km from the old town to Cala Estreta. It is a peculiar route, that every couple of kilometers offers us a point of interest.

First section of 1.5 km: We start the tour in the old town and continue north along the coast. We pass by the Mirador del Faro, Puerto Marina, and the cove of Morro del Vedell, up to the Mirador de Cap Gros.

Second section: Cap Gros – Castell de Sant Esteve, passing through La Fosca beach, shallow and facing southeast.

Third leg: After 750 m, we arrive at Cala S’Alguer, an old neighborhood of fishermen’s barracks that dates back to the 15th century.

We arrive at Playa de Castell: one of the most beautiful beaches in Palamos

Iberian settlement of Castell: The beach continues towards a small rock of sa Cobertera, where we find the archaeological remains of the Iberian site (6th century BC to 2nd century AD) and between the cliffs, La Foradada.

Last section of 1.5 km from the town to the Cala Estreta fishermen’s barracks. From the point of the castle, the coast is cut with coves interspersed such as Cala Senià, Cala Canyers, Cala de Corbs and Cala Estreta, up to Cabo de Planes
