The Colegio Teresiano Barcelona is an isolated, elegant and sober building, with the air of an impregnable fortress, it is the surprising school that Gaudí built for the Company of Santa Teresa.

Behind the fence and the garden that surrounds it, this Gaudinian work stands imposingly, which since its origin has maintained the activity of a teaching center.
In 1887 the religious order of Santa Teresa decided to build a school teaching center in the town of Sant Gervasi de Cassoles, which at that time was a small town north of Barcelona. Gaudí took charge of the works that an architect of unknown name had started and kept the rectangular shape of the plan, since the foundations had already been made, but the structural project of the building varied and gave it his very personal mark.

Unlike in other of his works, Gaudí had to submit to strict economic rigor, which explains the austerity of materials such as brick and crumbled stone on the outside or the plaster walls on the inside. Even so, the genius of Gaudí can be appreciated in the structural system of the building, which, from two large interior courtyards and corridors with tall and narrow parabolic arches, allows light to enter from the top floor to the ground floor. On the façade, where we also find parabolic arched windows, the original composition formed by battlements crowned with the saint’s doctoral cap stands out. The religious symbolism is completed by the pinnacles at the ends of the building, which have a four-armed cross at the top.
