GIRONA, HOSTALRICH CASTLE, AND ROCA VILLAGE TOUR
We will begin our trip at the scheduled time from the Palamós cruise terminal.
Our first stop will be Girona, known as the “City of Four Rivers.” We will begin the tour at the Stone Bridge (Pont de Pedra), one of the city’s most iconic landmarks, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the Onyar River and the famous colorful houses that line its banks. From there, we will head to the Barri Vell, Girona’s old town, a maze of narrow, cobblestone streets steeped in history. In this picturesque neighborhood, we will visit Girona Cathedral, famous for its impressive Baroque façade and for housing the widest Gothic nave in the world. The cathedral is also a prominent setting in the popular series “Game of Thrones.”
We will conclude our visit to Girona with a walk along the ancient city walls. This tour will offer spectacular views of both the city and the surrounding area, allowing you to appreciate how Girona was defended in medieval times. The walls are accessible from several points in the old town and provide a unique perspective of the city.
We will then stop for lunch at a local restaurant, where you can enjoy the region’s cuisine.
We will then head to Hostalric Castle, where you will enjoy a guided tour led by accredited local guides who will accompany you on a discovery of this imposing fortress, which has played an important role in different episodes of Catalan history. The guided tour, lasting approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, will allow you to understand the evolution of this medieval castle into a modern fortress. You will learn about the reasons behind its transformation, the construction system used, and the typical defensive elements of this fortification. During the tour, you will have access to the castle’s most noble room, the knight’s room, a space from the former Cabrera castle, where the most surprising details of the building’s history will be explained to you. The visit culminates in the parade ground, where you can enjoy an excellent panoramic view of the area, with views of the Montseny massif, Montsoriu Castle, and the Montengre Corredor mountain range.
Finally, the tour will take us to an essential shopping stop: La Roca Village. This exclusive outlet, located just 40 minutes from Barcelona, offers a unique experience with its charming streets adorned with buildings inspired by Mediterranean architecture and the style of Gaudí. With more than 150 boutiques from national and international brands, you’ll enjoy discounts of up to 60% on luxury brands.
